The incident involving a male worker occurred on Thursday 18 July, Warrenpoint Port confirmed. It has not released any information about the cause of death or what kind of work the man was doing at the time of the incident.<\/p>\n
In a statement released on 18 July, Clare Guinness, CEO at Warrenpoint Port, said: \u201cFollowing an incident earlier this afternoon, we can confirm the death of a colleague at Warrenpoint Port.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn behalf of everyone at Warrenpoint Port, we wish to convey our deepest sympathies to the family.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe PSNI and Health and Safety Executive were immediately informed of the incident and we are co-operating with them and all relevant authorities to enable a full investigation to take place.\u201d<\/p>\n
The port closed on 18 July after the incident, but operations resumed on 19 July. The port will close for a limited period on 22 July.<\/p>\n
Last year, the port unveiled a 25-year growth plan involving upgrading transport links, improving capacity and facilities and developing improved linkages with Warrenpoint town.<\/p>\n
The Masterplan document for the port covers 2018-2043 and prioritises delivery of the Southern Relief Road, redevelopment of the Town Dock in Warrenpoint Town Square and providing open public access to an expanded marina.<\/p>\n
