{"id":495,"date":"2020-07-10T13:08:00","date_gmt":"2020-07-10T12:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport-congress\/2020\/07\/10\/stepping-up-to-eliminate-single-use-plastic\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T13:23:01","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T12:23:01","slug":"stepping-up-to-eliminate-single-use-plastic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport-congress\/news\/australasia-greenport\/stepping-up-to-eliminate-single-use-plastic\/","title":{"rendered":"Stepping up to eliminate single-use plastic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) has taken the Marina Industries Association pledge to become a plastic free marina by 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The pledge is part of GPC&#8217;s involvement in the <em>International Clean Marina Program<\/em> managed by the Marina Industries Association \u2013 a voluntary, incentive-based education and outreach program.<\/p>\n<p>Marina Superintendent David Osmond said it&#8217;s a step in the right direction to reducing and eliminating single-use plastic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGPC has pledged to reduce and eventually eliminate the use of single use plastics by 2025 at the Gladstone marina through changed business practices and recycling,&#8221; Mr Osmond said. \u201cWe&#8217;re also committing to monitoring our results and sharing our successes in a transparent manner.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>GPC signed the Marina Industries Association pledge in June, ready for Plastic Free July, along with 55 other marinas across Australia and the globe including New Zealand, Fiji, Hong Kong and Papua New Guinea.<\/p>\n<p>People, Community and Sustainability General Manger, Rowen Winsor said GPC is committed to reducing the carbon footprint on the environment by providing tap water for park users and encouraging eco-friendly habits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs responsible custodians, we acknowledge our role to protect the marine environment as our highest priority,&#8221; Ms Winsor said. \u201cWe rely on having clean waterways and a pristine marine environment for locals and visitors to enjoy.
