{"id":523,"date":"2020-08-31T21:53:00","date_gmt":"2020-08-31T20:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport-congress\/2020\/08\/31\/stevedore-dies-at-nz-terminal\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T13:23:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T12:23:08","slug":"stevedore-dies-at-nz-terminal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport-congress\/news\/oceania\/stevedore-dies-at-nz-terminal\/","title":{"rendered":"Stevedore dies at NZ terminal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 30 August, a Ports of Auckland (POAL) stevedore was fatally injured while working on a ship at Fergusson Container Terminal, said POAL.<\/p>\n<p>POAL CEO, Tony Gibson, said: \u201cWe are all absolutely devastated by this news.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn investigation is underway, and we are providing support to our staff member\u2019s family and all our staff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve met with his family and offered all our love and support. We will do everything we can to help them through this tragic accident.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Limited disclosure<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>POAL said it cannot currently provide any further information as the incident is under investigation.<\/p>\n<p>New Zealand workplace health and safety regulator WorkSafe confirmed Maritime New Zealand will be leading the investigation into the incident.<\/p>\n<p>New Zealand police are also making enquiries.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, POAL admitted a health and safety charge at the Auckland District Court following the death of a worker two years earlier.
