{"id":551,"date":"2020-12-14T12:42:00","date_gmt":"2020-12-14T12:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport-congress\/2020\/12\/14\/stena-edges-closer-to-co2-targets\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T13:23:13","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T12:23:13","slug":"stena-edges-closer-to-co2-targets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport-congress\/news\/energy-technology-greenport\/stena-edges-closer-to-co2-targets\/","title":{"rendered":"Stena edges closer to CO2 targets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The facility at Kiel will reduce the CO2 emissions from the two vessels Stena Scandinavica and Stena Germanica by 2,700 tonnes per year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShore power supply is important for us for two reasons: First, we want to have an immediate positive impact on the air quality in the ports we use,\u201d said Niclas M\u00e5rtensson, CEO Stena Line and member of the Swedish Government Electrification Commission.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecondly, we expect an even higher share of electrification in ports in the future \u2013 at cars, trucks, port vehicles and not least ships.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kiel first<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The inauguration of the new facility marks the official start of the on-shore power supply for Stena Line in Kiel.<\/p>\n<p>The facility was co-funded by the state government of Schleswig-Holstein (8,9 m Euro) and the EU (1,26 m Euro).<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Germany\u00b4s federal government recently agreed on a political package to decrease the user prices for on-shore electricity significantly.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Kiel, Stena Line has the possibility to connect to shore power supply at its two terminals in G\u00f6teborg, as well as in Karlskrona, Norvik, Trelleborg and Hoek van Holland.<\/p>\n<p>This could potentially save the operator thus 13,000 tonnes of CO2 per year in its network.
