{"id":626,"date":"2021-05-19T11:07:00","date_gmt":"2021-05-19T10:07:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport-congress\/2021\/05\/19\/works-benefit-wildlife\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T13:23:39","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T12:23:39","slug":"works-benefit-wildlife","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport-congress\/news\/europe-greenport\/works-benefit-wildlife\/","title":{"rendered":"Works benefit wildlife"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Associated British Ports (ABP) works to the Harbour Kittiwake Wall on the North Pier are being undertaken as part of the preparations for Lowestoft Eastern Energy Facility (LEEF).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Port of Lowestoft has long been home for one of Suffolk\u2019s two established kittiwake colonies,\u201d said Andrew Harston, regional director, Wales &amp; Short Sea Ports, ABP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are delighted to be able to upgrade the Port of Lowestoft\u2019s Harbour Kittiwake Wall to ensure that it provides a safe, attractive nesting site for the visiting birds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wildlife protection<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The wall has been a successful breeding site, with hundreds of nests and fledglings recorded in previous years, however it is not currently being used by the kittiwakes.
