Notable projects include a modernisation at GCT Vanderm which is reducing terminal equipment emissions by more than 50% and the installation of electrical vehicle charging points at both GCT Vanderm and GCT Deltaport. These chargers have removed over 55,000 kg of GHG emissions in the first three months and more are being installed this year.

Converting to LED lighting on equipment and terminal lighting retrofit projects at GCT New York and GCT Deltaport are reducing emissions, glare, and the number of lights across facilities, and the operator is also rolling out upgrades of its container handling equipment including new eco-efficient sprinter carriers, modern RTGs and GCT Bayonne and two new electric ship-to-shore cranes featuring regenerative drives at GCT Vanterm.

Technology and process improvements are also ongoing with a recently completed route optimisation program at GCT Deltaport that reduces journey times and cuts tyre consumption.

GCT has also been instrumental in expanding container capacity at Roberts Bank through the GCT Deltaport Expansion – Berth Four Project, a sustainable development that will add up to 2M teus of new capacity, in line with the demand.

Finally, the company achieved Climate Smart Certification at its GCT USA terminals and maintained Green Marine certification at all terminals, having first been awarded this in 2014.
