{"id":10332,"date":"2016-11-08T09:14:00","date_gmt":"2016-11-08T09:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport\/2016\/11\/08\/energy-sustainability-efforts-awarded\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T14:58:15","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T13:58:15","slug":"energy-sustainability-efforts-awarded","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/news\/projects-initiatives-greenport\/energy-sustainability-efforts-awarded\/","title":{"rendered":"Energy sustainability efforts awarded"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It was awarded to assistant professor Tan Kar Way from SMU School of Information Systems (SIS) and her colleagues at DHL-SMU Green Transformation Lab (GTL) for a study titled \u2018A framework for evaluating energy sustainability efforts in maritime terminal operations: A study with Singapore and selected International ports\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Way said: \u201cWe are pleased to have won recognition for this study which will help Singapore formulate policies for its Next Generation Port 2030.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added: \u201cThe framework aims to cover transparency measurements, best practices, technologies and policies that allow business units at terminal operators to be accountable for their energy consumption.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith this approach, guidelines, policies and targets can be set to help Singapore\u2019s maritime operations move towards sustainable green growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With Singapore moving towards developing a clean and green port of the future, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and GTL have conducted a joint research on the latest developments and sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>Regulators and operators of leading ports are now increasingly paying more attention to such issues as environmental sustainability, energy consumption, air quality in the port areas, emissions of greenhouse gases.<\/p>\n<p>The team visited and worked with a local container port operator, bulk port operator, cruise terminal and a private oil terminal.<\/p>\n<p>Publicly available sources and scholastic papers on many top ports in the world were collated by the team to study their sustainability efforts, including Antwerp, Rotterdam, Los Angeles\/Long Beach, Gothenburg, Hamburg, Yokohama, San Diego, Miami, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.<\/p>\n<p>While two detailed case studies on Massvlakte 2 APM Terminal at Port of Rotterdam and Middle Harbour at Port of Long Beach were analysed and presented in the research study.<\/p>\n<p>This research by Professor Way and her team produced an evaluation framework which was able to define key parameters to be used to capture energy sustainability efforts based on processes at the terminals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI) has awarded the Special Mention Award to research conducted on energy sustainability efforts in maritime terminal operations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":10333,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[8],"tags":[],"sponsor":[],"class_list":["post-10332","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-projects-initiatives-greenport"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10332","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/8"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=10332"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10332\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":10334,"href":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10332\/revisions\/10334"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/10333"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=10332"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=10332"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=10332"},{"taxonomy":"sponsor","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/sponsor?post=10332"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
