The IEMA Associate Certificate in Environmental Management aims to provide the knowledge, understanding and skills to key staff and management with responsibilities to develop and implement environmental management and sustainability solutions in line with legislation.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not sector specific or aimed at any particular industry or business in particular, but it\u2019s helpful because it aims to address key issues relevant to all businesses across all sectors.<\/p>\n
Howard Dawes, portfolio manager \u2013 training, BSC, said to GreenPort: \u201cIt is clear that all organisations including those in the marine sector need to have a good awareness and understanding of the wider environmental and sustainability issues that both directly and perhaps indirectly affect them.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cFor ports in particular, with increasing evidence of a changing climate and the potential for increasing storm frequency and severity, businesses need to be more proactive in developing strategies, policies and practices that will secure their business operations into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Dawes added that having trained, competent personnel in post with the knowledge, understanding and skills to support the development and implementation of environmental sustainability strategies will ensure a long term future for the business and its stakeholders.<\/p>\n
The entry level course covers not only the fundamentals of environmental management \u2013 effective compliance, good practice, pollution prevention and management systems \u2013 but also introduces wider environmental sustainability issues relevant to practitioners and businesses.<\/p>\n
