{"id":10503,"date":"2013-04-24T16:35:00","date_gmt":"2013-04-24T15:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport\/2013\/04\/24\/antwerp-joins-efip\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T14:59:27","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T13:59:27","slug":"antwerp-joins-efip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/news\/europe-greenport\/antwerp-joins-efip\/","title":{"rendered":"Antwerp joins EFIP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The EFIP says that with an inland waterway with a throughput of almost 90 million tonnes, Antwerp serves an important inland port function and is an important member to have on board.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, one third of hinterland container traffic to and from the port goes via the waterway, but the port wants to raise this share to 40% by 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Antwerp has been working on strategies to improve barge handling and its waterway connections for the last few years. But the membership to EFIP should help to further reduce transit time for barges in the port and help optimise barge connections.<\/p>\n<p>Antwerp will join fellow Belgian EFIP members nv De Scheepvaart, Port of Brussels, Port of Ghent, Port of Liege, Waterwegen en Zeekanaal NV, The Port of Namur and S.C.R.L.
