Damen\u2019s hybrid vessel, which was honoured by the judges with the term \u201cDutch pride\u201d, has a diesel-direct, a diesel-electric and a battery powered propulsion system.<\/p>\n

This gives the captain the option to choose which type of propulsion is best suitable for the situation at hand, resulting in 10% less fuel consumption and 20% to 60% lower emissions, depending on how the vessel is used.<\/p>\n

The battery system allows the vessels\u2019 engines to be turned off while continuing to maintain its position, manoeuvring and sailing without a tow.<\/p>\n

LED lighting and a special paint coating also makes the vessel more environmentally friendly for at least five years.<\/p>\n

In addition, the set of solar panels is used for emergency power of 23V consumers (lighting, radio etc) and the engine starting system.<\/p>\n

The first ASD 2810 tugs<\/a> are currently being built at Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania. The first vessel will be delivered to launching customer, Iskes Towage & Salvage.<\/p>\n
