{"id":10544,"date":"2013-07-26T15:07:00","date_gmt":"2013-07-26T14:07:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport\/2013\/07\/26\/damen-wins-prize-for-green-tug\/"},"modified":"2013-07-26T15:07:00","modified_gmt":"2013-07-26T14:07:00","slug":"damen-wins-prize-for-green-tug","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/news\/europe-greenport\/damen-wins-prize-for-green-tug\/","title":{"rendered":"Damen wins prize for \u2018green\u2019 tug"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Damen\u2019s hybrid vessel, which was honoured by the judges with the term \u201cDutch pride\u201d, has a diesel-direct, a diesel-electric and a battery powered propulsion system.<\/p>\n<p>This gives the captain the option to choose which type of propulsion is best suitable for the situation at hand, resulting in 10% less fuel consumption and 20% to 60% lower emissions, depending on how the vessel is used.<\/p>\n<p>The battery system allows the vessels\u2019 engines to be turned off while continuing to maintain its position, manoeuvring and sailing without a tow.<\/p>\n<p>LED lighting and a special paint coating also makes the vessel more environmentally friendly for at least five years.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the set of solar panels is used for emergency power of 23V consumers (lighting, radio etc) and the engine starting system.<\/p>\n<p>The first <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenport.com\/news101\/europe\/damen-launches-first-hybrid-tug\" target=\"_blank\">ASD 2810 tugs<\/a> are currently being built at Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania.
