{"id":11400,"date":"2018-02-05T11:30:00","date_gmt":"2018-02-05T11:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport\/2018\/02\/05\/win-for-nelson-with-emissions-saving-logistics\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T15:07:40","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T14:07:40","slug":"win-for-nelson-with-emissions-saving-logistics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/news\/container-cargo-handling\/win-for-nelson-with-emissions-saving-logistics\/","title":{"rendered":"Win\/Win for Nelson with emissions-saving logistics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Perhaps a good yardstick can be found at the New Zealand port of Nelson, which has teamed with customers in the transport and logistics sectors to reduce the carbon footprint of New Zealand\u2019s wine industry \u2013 the country\u2019s fifth-largest export commodity.<\/p>\n<p>Nelson is situated at the top of the South Island, in one of the country\u2019s main wine-producing areas, and spotted a logistics synergy between the flow of export bottled wine and the demand for empty bottles needed by vineyards.<\/p>\n<p>So it created QuayConnect to optimise wine-related import and export loads. Port Nelson is the main hub through which the vast majority of this wine travels around the country, and to the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSustainability is an important strand to the New Zealand wine brand story, so playing our part in reducing the carbon footprint of the country\u2019s wine industry while dramatically improving logistics efficiency, is extremely important to us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The success of QuayConnect has been rewarded.
