Connected Places Catapult has selected six companies for its Clean Transport Accelerator: Maritime, with port operations and infrastructure among the key areas targeted by the six-month programme.<\/p>\n
Funded by Innovate UK, the programme is being delivered with the National Shipbuilding Office, Portsmouth International Port, the Port of Tyne and Serco. Participants will also benefit from specialist input from Maersk as they develop technologies aimed at reducing emissions across vessels, ports and shipyards.<\/p>\n
\u201cMaritime is the lifeblood of the UK’s trading economy, but achieving net zero across the sector is one of transport’s toughest decarbonisation challenges,\u201d said Sameer Savani, transport managing director at Connected Places Catapult.<\/p>\n
The programme builds on four years of the Catapult\u2019s Maritime Accelerator, which has supported 29 SMEs and delivered 11 trials. The latest cohort will focus on technologies covering decarbonisation, future fuels and electrification, with potential applications across port infrastructure and operations.<\/p>\n
Participating businesses will receive tailored commercial support and can apply for up to \u00a330,000 to conduct a four-month trial with a programme partner. Three companies will ultimately progress to trials, gaining access to industry expertise, facilities and testing environments.<\/p>\n
For ports, several of the selected technologies address operational efficiency and emissions directly. MapBI is developing a digital twin platform for port and terminal yards, designed to allow operators to visualise, track and optimise cargo, vehicle and equipment movements in real time.<\/p>\n
PowerUp Off-Grid Services is developing containerised clean-energy systems intended to replace fossil-fuel engines while retaining the flexibility required for industrial operations, potentially offering an alternative for port activities where fixed electrical connections are difficult.<\/p>\n
MCG is developing an integrated carbon visibility platform to help industrial companies verify emissions and reduce costs, while Subworx is developing an underwater inspection system aimed at improving hull integrity monitoring and enabling more proactive maintenance.<\/p>\n
Other cohort members are targeting vessel design and construction. Compute Maritime is developing NeuralShipper, an AI tool for lower-emission ship design, while Discovery Technologies is developing D-COMP, a lightweight composite boat-building solution.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
