Group managing director Horace Lo said advances in battery technology had made electrification a key long-term pathway, alongside alternative green fuels.

He added that achieving the company’s decarbonisation objectives would require strong support from the power sector, while also helping shipping lines and barge operators transition towards lower-carbon operations.

CLPe managing director Ringo Ng said: “Decarbonising the maritime sector is vital to Hong Kong’s competitiveness as an international maritime centre.”

He said the company was committed to advancing Hong Kong’s development as a green and smart port, with the partnership aiming to deliver integrated solutions that could establish new benchmarks for sustainable port operations.

The memorandum of understanding also aligns with the Hong Kong SAR Government’s strategic initiatives to accelerate maritime decarbonisation and strengthen the city’s position as an international maritime hub.

Following the signing, the companies will undertake feasibility studies and technical assessments of the proposed initiatives.
