{"id":1891,"date":"2022-01-13T10:47:00","date_gmt":"2022-01-13T10:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport\/2022\/01\/13\/energy-saving-lights\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T13:53:18","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T12:53:18","slug":"energy-saving-lights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/news\/europe-greenport\/energy-saving-lights\/","title":{"rendered":"Energy saving lights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following a review of \u2018high mast lighting\u2019 Associated British Ports has selected Telensa to provide its PLANet lighting at the Port of Southampton, Port of Ipswich and the Hams Hall Rail Freight Terminal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Telensa facility has proved invaluable during the last 18 months where cargo volumes have fluctuated due to supply chain variability,\u201d said Andy Robertson of ABP Southampton\u2019s electrical engineering team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have been able to light individual zones, adapting the lighting in line with the type and level of activity taking place, and make substantial energy savings of 15% by controlling the light output of compounds based on usage,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>To achieve the energy savings, the original HID luminaires have been replaced with more energy efficient CU Phosco LED luminaires. PLANet divides the sites into zones, providing varying lighting reflecting the type of activity taking place within each zone.<\/p>\n<p>These lighting policies can be changed in real-time as activity levels ebb and flow \u2013 all at the click of a mouse. Lights can be controlled on an individual basis, in grouped zones or across the estate as a whole.
