The 88 hectare NextGen District at the Port of Antwerp, deliberately chosen because of its proximity to Europe\u2019s largest chemical cluster, will become home to manufacturers keen to explore circular carbon solutions and renewable energy technologies.<\/p>\n
Two such companies have already signed up; Triple Helix and Bolder Industries, bringing \u20ac100 million in investment and at least 70 new jobs. \u201cThe signing of these first two concessionaires represents a milestone for NextGen District and for Port of Antwerp,\u201d said Jacques Vandermeiren, chief executive at the port. \u201cI want to thank both companies for being bold enough to take this leap of faith and I hope other game changers will follow.\u201d<\/p>\n
Antwerp-based Triple Helix is set to build a factory to take polyurethane foam from discarded mattresses, insulation panels and car seats, along with waste PET from the retail and food industries, and convert them into polyols which can then be used to produce new polyurethane products.<\/p>\n
Bolder Industries has developed a pioneering process for recycling end-of-life tyres which reuses 98% of the tyre with three quarters being used to create new tyres and other rubber goods.<\/p>\n
