GAC Bunker Fuels has become the first in its group to calculate and establish its emissions as a benchmark to reduce them in future.<\/p>\n
\u201cKnowing what our emissions are today marks an important step towards emissions reduction and offsetting with the aim of achieving zero oil-based bunker sales and net carbon zero by 1 January 2030,\u201d said Kelly Rump, GAC Bunker Fuel\u2019s head of sustainability.<\/p>\n
Group effort<\/strong><\/p>\n Verifying its emissions means that GAC Bunker Fuels is now assured by Bureau Veritas for indirect emissions from electricity and air-conditioning under Scope 2 and other indirect emissions that occur along the value chain.<\/p>\n This includes emissions associated with business travel and the use of sold products under Scope 3.<\/p>\n The bunker company does not have Scope 1 direct emissions from owned or controlled sources, but is currently working with existing and new clients to help them on their decarbonisation journey. For example, when fuel is purchased by giving advice on which suppliers offer alternative fuels, such as biofuel or LNG, globally.<\/p>\n This also gives customers an option to buy carbon credits to offset their fuel procurement.<\/p>\n Martyn McMahon, GAC Bunker Fuels\u2019 global commercial manager, said: \u201cThe market is in transition.
