{"id":2034,"date":"2022-02-28T12:11:00","date_gmt":"2022-02-28T12:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport\/2022\/02\/28\/biofuel-powered-logistics\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T13:54:22","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T12:54:22","slug":"biofuel-powered-logistics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/news\/alternative-fuels-greenport\/biofuel-powered-logistics\/","title":{"rendered":"Biofuel powered logistics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DB Schenker, which has purchased 2,500 tonnes of the fuel from CMA CGM, said that it will be able to reach net carbon zero-emission on a well-to-wake basis on the Less-than Container Load (LCL) segment,&nbsp;immediately reducing environmental footprint for both companies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRunning on biofuel marks another important step towards greener supply chains and pays into our overall sustainability agenda in ocean freight,\u201d said&nbsp;Thorsten Meincke, global board member for air &amp; ocean freight at DB Schenker.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dOur goal is to become a sustainability leader of the logistics industry and net carbon-zero by 2040, and we are ambitiously taking the lead here with CMA CGM.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Carbon-zero<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>DB Schenker said that customers can book the carbon-zero LCL option with immediate effect and receive a certificate of the emission reduction for their climate balance sheet.<\/p>\n<p>The cooperation has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 7,000 tonnes CO2e well-to-wake, which corresponds with at least 100% of the WTW emissions of the LCL containers handled with CMA CGM.<\/p>\n<p>Olivier Nivoix, executive vice president, lines, CMA CGM Group, said: \u201cAs a pioneer and a leader in sustainable shipping and logistics, the CMA CGM group has pledged that alternative fuels will cover at least 10% of its consumption by 2023.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCMA CGM continues to invest heavily in research and development alongside its industrial partners to identify the energy sources of the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biofuel is produced from waste materials, such as used cooking oils.
