{"id":2070,"date":"2022-03-11T11:41:00","date_gmt":"2022-03-11T11:41:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport\/2022\/03\/11\/hydrogen-on-teesside\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T13:54:37","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T12:54:37","slug":"hydrogen-on-teesside","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/news\/alternative-fuels-greenport\/hydrogen-on-teesside\/","title":{"rendered":"Hydrogen on Teesside"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>EDF Renewables and Hynamics is investing significantly in Teesside, with the former Redcar steelworks slated as the site of the new energy operation, Tees Green Hydrogen.<\/p>\n<p>The project will use green electricity from nearby Teesside Offshore Wind Farm along with a new solar farm, which EDF Renewables UK intends to construct near Redcar, to power a hydrogen electrolyser, supplying local business customers and PD Ports at Teesport with green energy to support decarbonisation efforts and reduce pollution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTees Green Hydrogen is a ground-breaking project, which will utilise locally produced green electricity to create the means to decarbonise local industry and safeguard its operation for many years to come, well beyond Net Zero 2050,\u201d said Tristan Zipfel, director of strategy and analysis at EDF Renewables UK.<\/p>\n<p>In its initial phase, the electrolyser will be 30-50MW in size, but is designed to be able to scale to over 500MW, in line with emerging demand.<\/p>\n<p>Detailed plans for Tees Green Hydrogen will be released later this year, with a consultation on the 49.9 MW Tees solar development taking place later this month.
