The Port of Rotterdam is one example, it\u2019s currently raising its land level to cater for renewable fuels and chemical products.<\/p>\n
At Maasvlakte 2, 55ha of land is being by marine engineering company Van Oord. The Port Authority wants to \u201dmake space available to other companies that make products from residual materials.\u201d<\/p>\n
Renewables cluster<\/strong><\/p>\n The Port Authority said that concentrating these types of companies brings about a cluster of companies that can use the same infrastructure, including pipelines. IT is aiming to create a cluster size measuring approximately 90ha in size. <\/p>\n Van Oord is delivering a total of 5 million m3 of sand onto the southern part of Prinses Alexiahaven. The new land will be raised to six metres above New Amsterdam Water Level (NAP). Van Oord expects the work will be completed in July.<\/p>\n Next, the sand will have to settle for half a year before it can be built on. A layer of clay will be placed on top, after which grass will be sown to prevent the sand from being blown away.<\/p>\n Preparation of the site followed the Finnish company UPM\u2019s recent announcement that it is now only looking at Rotterdam as a location for establishing its new biorefinery in Rotterdam.<\/p>\n A final decision on this is expected later in the year.
