{"id":2127,"date":"2022-04-07T11:17:00","date_gmt":"2022-04-07T10:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport\/2022\/04\/07\/green-hydrogen-in-oman\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T13:54:58","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T12:54:58","slug":"green-hydrogen-in-oman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/news\/alternative-fuels-greenport\/green-hydrogen-in-oman\/","title":{"rendered":"Green hydrogen in Oman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hydrogen Rise, Jindal Shadeed Iron &amp; Steel and Sohar Port and Freezone will review the plant which Hydrogen Rise is building to decarbonise processes at Jindal Shadeed\u2019s steel manufacturing plant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSohar is ideally-positioned to become a major exporter of green steel across the world and lead the way in facilitating the production, transportation and utilisation of clean hydrogen,\u201d said Mark Geilenkirchen, chief executive of Sohar Port and Freezone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis agreement is the first major step towards developing a viable alternative to gas, which will promote sustainable practices for all industries operating within Sohar and attract new businesses to our clusters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The partners will assess whether the plant has the potential to produce steel sustainably, reducing the complex\u2019s emissions and preserving gas reserves for other applications across the country.<\/p>\n<p>After conducting techno-economic feasibility studies, the first phase will include the operation of a 35MW electrolyser capacity by mid-2024, paired with a solar renewable energy plant.
