The company is now offering rail or barge services at around 95% of its European terminals as well as expanding its \u2018Our World, Our Future\u2019 pledge to include a commitment to safeguarding ocean health.<\/p>\n
At DP World\u2019s Antwerp terminal in Belgium CO2 emissions have reduced by 28% since 2019, and more than halved since 2013. The terminal now runs on 100% green electricity, three quarters of which is produced on site from its biogas plant and wind turbines.<\/p>\n
\u201cElectrification of terminals is the way to a zero-emissions future,\u201d said Rashid Abdulla, chief executive of DP World Europe. \u201cOur electricity in Antwerp is met entirely by locally produced and green energy from our own windmill, biogas plant and locally purchased green power,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The terminal has also invested in more energy efficient technology with 43 hybrid straddle carriers and ten electric automated stacking cranes now in operation, and a plan to add eight more by 2024.<\/p>\n
Amongst the multimodal transport options is connection to the pan-European river and canal network meaning that more than a third of all cargo is transported by barge.<\/p>\n
Ocean health<\/strong><\/p>\n DP World launched its \u2018Our World, Our Future\u2019 strategy in 2015 originally focusing on women and education.
