{"id":2573,"date":"2022-08-08T09:41:00","date_gmt":"2022-08-08T08:41:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport\/2022\/08\/08\/south-african-hydrogen-hub\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T13:58:07","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T12:58:07","slug":"south-african-hydrogen-hub","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/news\/alternative-fuels-greenport\/south-african-hydrogen-hub\/","title":{"rendered":"South African hydrogen hub"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) is stepping up the development of a port in the Northern Cape Province which it calls a first step towards realising the country\u2019s green hydrogen strategy.<\/p>\n<p>The port authority is currently calling on port and rail&nbsp;developers to respond to a Request for Qualification (RFQ) for the design, funding and construction of&nbsp;planned port and rail infrastructure to service the new hub.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dThe information sought through the RFQ is necessary for TNPA to chart a way forward in line with our&nbsp;strategic objective to operationalise a port in the region by 2026,\u201d said&nbsp;Magenthran Ruthenavelu, programme director, TNPA.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Strategic step<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>TNPA\u2019s RFQ is intended to obtain information to shape the final solution as well as identify and select qualifying&nbsp;developers who can undertake the design, funding and construction of a capital-efficient greenfield, deepwater port and associated infrastructure. It also seeks a rail solution&nbsp;proposal which will connect the port to the mining and industrial hubs in the province.<\/p>\n<p>RFQ documents can be accessed from the National Treasury\u2019s e-Tender portal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.etenders.gov.za\/\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.etenders.gov.za\/<\/a>&nbsp;and\/or the Transnet website.&nbsp;Responses to the RFQ must be submitted by no later than 12pm on 2 November 2022.<\/p>\n<p>TNPA is focusing on work across the board to transition its energy use to more greener means.
