Owned, built and operated by a consortium comprising the Sovereign Fund of Egypt, Fertiglobe, Scatec and Orascom, Egypt Green will be the first integrated green hydrogen plant in Africa, delivering around 15,000 tonnes of the fuel as feedstock for up to 90,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually.<\/p>\n
Advances in its industrial sector have put Egypt on a renewable energy journey in a market where it is estimated that low-emission hydrogen exports will reach 12 million tonnes per year.<\/p>\n
The 100 MW of electrolysers, powered by 260 MW of solar and wind, are located at Ain Sokhna which is perfectly positioned close to Suez opening up the possibility of using renewable electricity to develop an industrial hub near global shipping lanes.<\/p>\n
Ayman Soliman, chief executive of The Sovereign Fund of Egypt said the project was delivering on Egypt\u2019s promise to the world to create a regional hub for green energy and transforming the Suez Canal into a green corridor.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur pipeline of projects in the green energy field capitalises on Egypt\u2019s ideal location with its unique renewables profile and proximity to markets with renewables deficits to realise our shared goal of emissions reduction,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The consortium is in the process of finalising engineering and technology choices for the fullscale plant and the partners aim to reach final investment decision on the facility in 2023.<\/p>\n
The first and largest polymer electrolyte membrane electrolyser in Africa is currently undergoing tests as part of the first phase of the project.<\/p>\n
