The 1,832 panels are capable of generating 1.18 GWh of electricity, enough to power around 200 homes for a year.<\/p>\n
Estefan\u00eda Soler, head of sustainability at BEST, said, \u201cThese efforts contribute to further reducing the terminal\u2019s carbon footprint, with BEST\u2019s emissions being 65% lower than conventional manual terminals.\u201d<\/p>\n
BEST was inaugurated ten years ago and is a benchmark in terms of sustainability within the terminals of the Hutchison Ports group, which operates 52 terminals in 26 countries.<\/p>\n
The terminal already uses mostly electric cranes and is working with the Barcelona Port Authority to electrify its quay and provide shore-based power for visiting vessels.<\/p>\n
This solar panel initiative is part of BEST\u2019s sustainability strategy and reinforces its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7 of the 2030 Agenda on \u2018Affordable and Clean Energy\u2019.<\/p>\n
BEST has also invested in rail travel, increasing the use of rail in the Port of Barcelona from 3% to 20% in the past ten years thanks to its own terminal and rail operators and investment in intermodal terminals in northern Spain.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
