The company says it is set to pave the way for tanker berth operators to reduce emissions and help decarbonise maritime and energy supply chains.<\/p>\n<p>The test sequence, during which no electrical current was supplied to the vessel, was conducted earlier this year with the Tern Fors, a 15,000dwt oil and chemical tanker with a capacity of 16,500 cubic metres.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe connected and checked that the cable fits and carried out all the necessary safety checks,\u201d said Claes M\u00f6ller, chief executive of T\u00e4rntank Ship Management.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only thing we didn\u2019t do was switch on the power,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Following the successful trial, T\u00e4rntank and the Port of G\u00e4vle now plan to use the system to connect the Tern Fors to electrical current.<\/p>\n<p>Shore power was first introduced in Sweden \u2013 again supplied by Cavotec \u2013 at a passenger ferry berth at the Port of Gothenburg in the 1980s.
