The 180,000m\u00b3 tank will increase capacity at the terminal by 4 billion cubic metres per year when it comes online by the second half of 2026.<\/p>\n

Gate terminal was founded by owners Vopak and Gasunie in 2011. The terminal plays a crucial role in the supply and availability of gas in the Netherlands and its neighbouring countries. Once all envisaged projects at Gate terminal have been completed, the terminal will have a total regas capacity of 20 billion cubic metres per year<\/p>\n
\u201cThe investment in this new tank is part of a broader package of proposed and already realised measures to increase LNG import capacity in the Netherlands,\u201d explained Hans Coenen, on behalf of the board of directors of Gasunie.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is necessary to compensate for the loss of Russian natural gas and to reduce the scarcity of natural gas on the European gas market.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gasunie is also developing other technologies to reduce reliance on fossil fuels such as the construction of a national hydrogen network, conversion of import terminals and CO2 capture and storage.<\/p>\n
