The Green & Digital Shipping Corridor was established in August 2022 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions on the Rotterdam-Singapore route, achieving net-zero by 2050. This latest ambition was agreed at the collective\u2019s third workshop, held this week in Rotterdam.<\/p>\n
With inaugural members including the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and the Port of Rotterdam Authority, the corridor has attracted strong support from the wider industry and now counts shipping lines, fuel suppliers, fuel coalitions and associations, banks, leading institutes of higher learning and knowledge partners among its members.<\/p>\n
The project partners aim to reduce GHG emissions from the route by at least 20%, striving for 30%, by 2030, compared to 2022.<\/p>\n
This will be achieved through the use of greener fuels in large containers vessels (of at least 8,000 teu) deployed on the 15,000 km route, supported by operational and digital efficiencies.<\/p>\n
Working groups have been established to look into the use of these fuels on the trade lane, spanning across demand and supply of fuel, standards, safety procedures, financing and regulations.<\/p>\n
Low carbon fuels are likely to be more expensive than existing fuels, therefore a separate group has been formed to address gaps in regulation and financing.<\/p>\n
In addition, Singapore and Rotterdam are looking at port readiness, for example, bunkering standards and safety frameworks, as well as sharing port and vessel information to improve efficiency.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
