{"id":3755,"date":"2023-10-04T11:02:00","date_gmt":"2023-10-04T10:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport\/2023\/10\/04\/ambitious-offshore-wind-plans-afoot-in-scotland\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T14:07:01","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T13:07:01","slug":"ambitious-offshore-wind-plans-afoot-in-scotland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/news\/projects-initiatives-greenport\/ambitious-offshore-wind-plans-afoot-in-scotland\/","title":{"rendered":"Ambitious offshore wind plans afoot in Scotland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The operator said that offshore wind offers a massive opportunity for Scotland and the UK to not only dramatically increase the generation of green, secure electricity, but also to create jobs and prosperity accompanying its development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOffshore wind offers huge potential to generate green energy and \u2013 if the right conditions are in place \u2013 significant jobs and prosperity benefits to Scotland and the UK,\u201d said&nbsp;Henrik Pedersen, CEO of ABP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis new project emphasises ABP\u2019s commitment to supporting green growth projects and is closely linked to our recently launched sustainability strategy \u2013 Ready for Tomorrow \u2013 which sets out plans for reaching net zero from our own operations by 2040.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Land agreement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>ABP has signed an agreement in respect of an area of land at Pitcalzean Farm adjacent to the Nigg Energy Park.<\/p>\n<p>Pitcalzean Farm, which lies within the proposed Nigg and Pitcalzean Tax Site of the Green Freeport, has been identified as ideally located and with the key physical characteristics required for supporting both fixed-bottom and floating offshore wind (FLOW) projects.<\/p>\n<p>The operator is already developing a major FLOW construction port at its Port Talbot, South Wales location and will be applying the experience from that development as it assesses options for Nigg.<\/p>\n<p>The Floating Offshore Wind Taskforce\u2019s recently published \u201cIndustry Roadmap 2040\u201d, estimated that planned floating offshore wind (FLOW) projects in Scottish waters alone will require three to five integration ports.<\/p>\n<p>ABP\u2019s vision is to explore the suitability and business case for the development of a major OSW construction port to support the growth of floating offshore windfarms in Scottish waters.
