The Port of Argentia in Newfoundland and Hamburg Port Authority have signed a letter of intent committing the two countries to the export of Canadian hydrogen to Germay as part of the implementation of the Canada-Germany Energy Partnership and Hydrogen Alliance.<\/p>\n
Jens Meier, chief executive at Hamburg Port Authority, said that the ports were in agreement that a maritime supply chain for green hydrogen and its derivates was urgently needed. \u201cSuch novel supply chains need close cooperation and collaboration among exporting and importing ports,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs future production and consumption locations, both ports have unique offerings to share in a manner that can be mutually beneficial.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Port of Argentia is a partner with Pattern Energy for the establishment of Argentia Renewables, a 300MW wind energy to green hydrogen production project at Argentia. This LOI forms the basis for collaboration to facilitate the production, distribution and application of green hydrogen derivates.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis signing strategically aligns both the ports of Argentia and Hamburg to facilitate the development of a hydrogen export\/import corridor as we collectively establish our ports as leaders in the global energy transition,\u201d said Port of Argentia chief executive, Scott Penney.<\/p>\n
