This new compactor, introduced as part of a sustainability initiative, is designed to minimise waste volume, leading to fewer waste collection pickups and thereby lowering associated costs and carbon emissions.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince introducing the compactor, we have slashed weekly waste collection pickups by almost 66% during peak times, from approximately 14 collections to just five per week,\u201d said Benjamin Dayman, asset manager, Port Authority of NSW.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis translates to an almost 50% reduction in waste operational costs at this facility, and we expect to see further cost savings in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
Waste intiative<\/strong><\/p>\n This initiative, developed in collaboration with waste management contractor Veolia, underscores the port authority\u2019s commitment to sustainability and cost-efficiency.<\/p>\n The project also involved close cooperation with the OPT\u2019s three main restaurant tenants to enhance waste management practices within the shared garbage room facility.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is wonderful to have the support of our tenants as they help reduce their environmental impact. By sorting waste to minimise contamination, we ensure recyclables like cardboard are disposed of more efficiently.
