{"id":4662,"date":"2024-09-19T12:53:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-19T11:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport\/2024\/09\/19\/abp-plans-barrow-port-transformation\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T14:12:00","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T13:12:00","slug":"abp-plans-barrow-port-transformation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/news\/projects-initiatives-greenport\/abp-plans-barrow-port-transformation\/","title":{"rendered":"ABP plans Barrow Port transformation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ABP\u2019s masterplan describes how Barrow will take advantage of significant long-term investment in three key areas \u2013 an advanced engineering cluster, net zero cluster and local businesses, communities and environments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur masterplan ensures that this development benefits not only the industry but also the local community and environment, and supports ABP\u2019s wider sustainability strategy \u2013 Ready for Tomorrow,\u201d said Bryan Davies, divisional port manager (Northwest and Scotland) at ABP.<\/p>\n<p>The masterplan details how the port will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Expand capacity to support manufacturing and shipping of submarine sections to meet the demands of the AUKUS tripartite deal between the UK, US and Australia.<\/li>\n<li>Play a role boosting the UK\u2019s journey to energy security and net zero.<\/li>\n<li>Reinforce the local economy, making Barrow a more attractive place to live and work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cABP\u2019s masterplan is a visionary blueprint for the future of Barrow,\u201d said Michelle Scrogham MP for Barrow and Furness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe focus on sustainable growth, along with the port\u2019s role in supporting both advanced engineering and renewable energy, means this plan will have long-lasting benefits for our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Solar and offshore wind<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Specific plans include the development of the Barrow EnergyDock floating solar project, comprising an array in Cavendish Dock generating up to 32 MWp of green electricity, enough to power 10,300 homes each year.<\/p>\n<p>Already well-established in the offshore wind industry, ABP is planning new operations &amp; maintenance bases along with berths capable of handling large service operation vessels.
