This vessel will form part of the port authority\u2019s efforts to further decarbonise and digitalise maritime operations.<\/p>\n
MPA said: \u201dIn addition to meeting MPA\u2019s operational requirements, the designs must include safety features such as advanced battery management systems, secure battery compartments to maintain fire, gastight and watertight integrity and intelligent cooling systems for optimal thermal management.\u201d<\/p>\n
Proposals must also include efficient charging and battery replacement solutions to support extended operations.<\/p>\n
Decarbonisation strategy<\/strong><\/p>\n Back in the spring, GreenPort caught up with Mr New Wei Siang, director, maritime decarbonisation & net-zero pathways, Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), to talk MPA\u2019s decarbonisation strategy<\/a>.<\/p>\n MPA\u2019s decarbonisation strategy includes transforming its port terminals and greening its domestic harbour craft, helping support the multi-fuel transition for international shipping.<\/p>\n From 2030, all new harbour craft operating in the Port of Singapore will have to be electric, be capable of using B100 biofuel, or be compatible with net zero fuels such as hydrogen.<\/p>\n The harbour craft sector (including pleasure craft and tugboats) will also be required to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.<\/p>\n To that end, MPA is working with industry stakeholders to develop cost effective, efficient electric harbour craft (e-HC) designs, establishing charging infrastructure and providing green financing to support e-HC adoption.<\/p>\n
