The Clean Ports Program will help 55 ports across 27 states deploy zero emission equipment, implement infrastructure and develop air quality improvement projects.<\/p>\n
Funded through Biden\u2019s Inflation Reduction Act, it is hoped the investment will fund initiatives that collectively reduce more than 3 million tonnes of carbon pollution, equivalent to 391,220 homes\u2019 energy use for one year.<\/p>\n

\u201cDelivering cleaner technologies and resources to US ports will slash harmful air and climate pollution while protecting people who work in and live nearby ports communities.\u201d<\/p>\n
In February 2024, the EPA launched two funding competitions aimed at advancing clean technologies at US ports \u2013 the Zero-Emission Technology Deployment Competition and the Climate and Air Quality Planning Competition.<\/p>\n
By May 2024, the agency received over US$8 billion in funding requests, ultimately selecting 55 applications for substantial investments.<\/p>\n
Among the noteworthy selections, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey will receive approximately US$344 million for electric cargo equipment and community engagement programs.<\/p>\n
The Georgia Ports Authority is set to obtain nearly US$49 million for shore power systems at Savannah and Brunswick ports.<\/p>\n
