The expansion, covering 51 hectares, will double the terminal\u2019s capacity, transforming it into one of the most advanced fully automated container terminals globally.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith the leading companies ABB, Dura Vermeer and GMB, APM Terminals has good experiences gained in the past and we fully expect that the expansion and actual doubling of our terminal capacity will be completed as agreed and on time,\u201d said Harold Kunst, managing director APM Terminals MVII.<\/p>\n
The project will involve building 31 new yard blocks, quay areas, truck and rail facilities along with other infrastructure. The Rotterdam Port Authority has already completed 1,000 metres of new deep-sea quay as part of the development.<\/p>\n
ABB will provide key electrification services, including substations, lighting, fibre optic networks and power supply for cranes and reefers. Dura Vermeer and GMB will manage the civil works, including pavements, concrete foundations, crane tracks and the rail terminal expansion.<\/p>\n

Electrification and automation<\/strong><\/p>\n Once complete, MVII will be a fully electrified, automated terminal capable of handling the world\u2019s largest container ships.<\/p>\n Operating solely on renewable energy, it will feature dedicated barge cranes and a rail terminal connected to Germany\u2019s rail network.
