These cranes, designed by Konecranes and delivered on 25 January, bring the total number of Super Post Panamax cranes at Ocean Terminal to eight.<\/p>\n
The new additions will allow Ocean Terminal to handle two vessels simultaneously once all cranes are fully commissioned, boosting efficiency and increasing the port\u2019s capacity.<\/p>\n
The cranes, known for their energy-efficient electric power, are part of the port\u2019s ongoing effort to modernise its operations and maintain its position as a leader in container handling on the East Coast.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe completion of this project in 2028 will enable Ocean Terminal to accommodate the largest vessels serving the US East Coast,\u201d said Ed McCarthy, chief operating officer of Georgia Ports.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur goal is to ensure customers have the future berth capacity for their larger vessels\u2019 first port of calls with the fastest US inland connectivity to compete in world markets.\u201d<\/p>\n
While Ocean Terminal remains open and operational, it is currently undergoing a significant renovation to improve both infrastructure and service. The Georgia Ports Authority recently approved a US$29 million project for an exit ramp directly connecting the terminal to local highways.<\/p>\n
This new ramp, which is 60% complete, will allow container trucks to bypass local roads and transit directly to Atlanta\u2019s highways, easing congestion and reducing truck traffic in nearby residential areas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
