The funding, provided through the \u2019Green Shipping Corridor Program\u2019, will help Halifax prepare for the future of sustainable shipping by investing in green fuels infrastructure and workforce development. <\/p>\n

Continued collaboration<\/strong><\/p>\n Major initiatives being backed by the funding include risk assessments for alternative-fueled vessels, electrification projects and feasibility studies on lower-carbon fuels like hydrogen.<\/p>\n The port will also work with its port partners to support electrification efforts investing in equipment to continue lowering emissions at the port.<\/p>\n This funding builds on Halifax\u2019s existing efforts, including a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Hamburg Port Authority, signed in September 2022.<\/p>\n This collaboration was set up to develop port infrastructure for green hydrogen exports and imports while fostering cooperation between stakeholders to accelerate the global energy transition.<\/p>\n At the time, Premier Tim Houston, Premier of Nova Scotia, said: \u201cThe Halifax Port Authority and Hamburg Port Authority are demonstrating leadership in this sector. They are not waiting for the arrival of hydrogen to begin their operational changes.
