\u201cOur partnership with The Northwest Seaport Alliance and Seattle City Light is critical to ensuring there\u2019s enough power to meet the increasing demand for bringing electricity to the waterfront to serve ferries, trucks, cargo handling equipment and the Coast Guard,\u201d said Port of Seattle commissioner Fred Felleman.<\/p>\n
The report projects a fourfold increase in peak power demand by 2050 and highlights the urgency of continued planning and investment in clean energy systems.<\/p>\n
Key findings emphasise the growing importance of shore power for oceangoing vessels and warn that current electrical capacity planning limits will be exceeded unless action is taken.<\/p>\n
\u201cInstalling shore power at marine terminals so that cruise and cargo ships can turn off their engines while at dock is a key part of the Port of Seattle\u2019s commitment to becoming the greenest port in North America,\u201d continued Felleman.<\/p>\n
The strategy, shaped through site-specific assessments across Elliott Bay, the Duwamish River and other maritime zones, provides eight key recommendations covering infrastructure planning, clean technology and financial strategies.<\/p>\n
