{"id":5295,"date":"2025-05-20T11:28:00","date_gmt":"2025-05-20T10:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport\/2025\/05\/20\/brazils-renewable-energy-powered-terminal\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T14:16:01","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T13:16:01","slug":"brazils-renewable-energy-powered-terminal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/news\/americas-greenport\/brazils-renewable-energy-powered-terminal\/","title":{"rendered":"Brazil\u2019s renewable energy powered terminal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The terminal received the International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC), which confirms that 100% of its electricity consumption now comes from renewable sources, effectively reducing its Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions to zero.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe I-REC Certificate reinforces Rio Grande Container Terminal\u2019s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, in keeping with the best market practices,\u201d said Paulo Bertinetti, CEO of the terminal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith this initiative, it is estimated that Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions at the terminal have been reduced by about 80%, which reaffirms our progress towards increasingly cleaner and more efficient operations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clean energy use<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Awarded in April by EDP Brasil, a leader in energy generation, the I-REC seal ensures that the energy used by the terminal is clean and traceable, aligning with international standards for carbon accounting and emission reduction.<\/p>\n<p>As a strategic gateway for Rio Grande do Sul, the terminal is vital for trade and economic development.
