An article by Corporate Counsel<\/em> reported that Michael Guidry, chief executive and president of security services and crisis-resolution firm the Guidry Group, said: \u201cAll I see every time I go to Africa are more and more Chinese,\u201d adding that Africa is the richest continent globally with \u201cminerals, oil, gas \u2026 anything you can think of\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Chinese see Africa as the gem of the world and have been moving into it for probably the past 20 years,\u201d Mr Guidry was quoted as saying.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey pretty much have a stronghold in just about every country in Africa.\u201d<\/p>\n

The chief executive was also reported as saying: \u201cIf we lose Libya, then we\u2019ve lost almost all of North Africa. We\u2019ve already lost South Africa.\u201d<\/p>\n

China is the largest trading partner for Africa and has constructed ports, railway, roads and other infrastructure across the continent.<\/p>\n

In 2017, management consulting business McKinsey & Company found that there were over 10,000 companies owned by Chinese parties operating in the continent, mainly in the southern regions.<\/p>\n

According to the article, Mr Guidry said in an interview in February that he was in talks with two possible US and European investors. However, he declined to provide further detail, citing a nondisclosure agreement.<\/p>\n

The chief executive claimed that the Port of Susah venture will be the largest infrastructure project ever witnessed by Libya.<\/p>\n

He hopes to break ground on the facility in October, assuming he can get the required investors.<\/p>\n
