{"id":5564,"date":"2025-08-11T12:04:00","date_gmt":"2025-08-11T11:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport\/2025\/08\/11\/work-begins-on-klaipdas-green-hydrogen-station\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T14:17:38","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T13:17:38","slug":"work-begins-on-klaipdas-green-hydrogen-station","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/news\/alternative-fuels-greenport\/work-begins-on-klaipdas-green-hydrogen-station\/","title":{"rendered":"Work begins on Klaip\u0117da\u2019s green hydrogen station"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The station is expected to produce 127 tonnes of hydrogen annually, part of which will be used to power the first vessel in the country driven by green hydrogen, currently nearing completion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have reached a very important stage of this ambitious project \u2013 one that is now visible not only in documents but also on the ground: construction is underway,\u201d&nbsp;said Algis Latakas, director general of the Klaip\u0117da State Seaport Authority.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dWe are investing in the future because we see Klaip\u0117da Port as green, competitive and attractive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Building resilience<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In October 2024, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/environment-and-sustainability\/klaipeda-launches-first-green-h2-station\/1497365.article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MT Group inked a deal with the port authority<\/a> to supply, assemble and commission equipment for green hydrogen production and public refuelling stations.<\/p>\n<p>The station is being&nbsp;developed by EPC contractor MT Group, with UK-based engineering company IMI providing the proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyser.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s expected to produce 127 tonnes of hydrogen annually, some of which will be used to power the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/environment-and-sustainability\/exclusive-lithuanias-hydrogen-powered-port-vessel\/1500752.article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">first vessel in the country driven by green hydrogen, currently nearing completion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Once the site is finished, the installation and testing of hydrogen equipment will follow.
