The programme supports the use of hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), a renewable diesel alternative that reduces carbon intensity by up to 85%.<\/p>\n
With more than 4,000 truck visits per day across its UK ports, DP World will help at least 500 trucks adopt HVO by 2027. Operators will access HVO at the same cost as diesel, removing a major financial barrier to adoption.<\/p>\n
\u201cCargo owners and freight forwarders can significantly reduce their supply chain scope 3 emissions if they use trucking companies that participate in the programme,\u201d said John Trenchard, vice president for Sustainable International Supply Chains at DP World.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is an innovative first for the container sector and we estimate that more than 30,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide could be reduced each year if all our trucking partners register.\u201d<\/p>\n
DP World has partnered with Certas Energy and New Era Fuels to supply HVO either via bulk delivery or fuel cards at UK refuelling stations. Trucks visiting DP World ports more than 90 times over three months with loaded containers may qualify for up to 5,000 litres of HVO per vehicle per port.<\/p>\n
\u201cHauliers want to reduce their emissions,\u201d said Richard Smith, managing director of the Road Haulage Association. \u201cWe welcome DP World\u2019s programme together with the accompanying carbon literacy training.\u201d<\/p>\n
