The initiative, named PORTALI-H2, forms part of the port\u2019s broader strategy to become a leading energy hub in the Mediterranean and aligns with the European Union\u2019s decarbonisation objectives, including the European Green Deal and the \u2018Fit for 55\u2019 plan.<\/p>\n
The PMC process, open until 30 September is seeking firms to identify viable technologies, compare development timelines and evaluate budget proposals. It also aims to ensure the future plant meets operational needs and supports the port\u2019s logistics system.<\/p>\n
The hydrogen plant is expected to have a minimum capacity of 1 MW, but its purpose extends beyond simple energy production. Key objectives include ensuring at least 70% of the plant\u2019s consumption is covered by renewable sources, integrating hydrogen into port operations and local transport, cutting CO\u2082 emissions and promoting innovation through partnerships with universities and technology centres.<\/p>\n
PORTALI-H2 will follow a public-private model, with private companies responsible for development and operation under a concession scheme. No direct public funding will be used.<\/p>\n
This project is part of a wider push for innovation at the port, which includes initiatives in digitalisation, blue economy research, electric vehicles and renewable energy.<\/p>\n
