{"id":5861,"date":"2025-11-17T12:53:00","date_gmt":"2025-11-17T12:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport\/2025\/11\/17\/ports-urged-to-unite-on-climate-risk\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T14:19:24","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T13:19:24","slug":"ports-urged-to-unite-on-climate-risk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/news\/projects-initiatives-greenport\/ports-urged-to-unite-on-climate-risk\/","title":{"rendered":"Ports urged to unite on climate risk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Resilience4Ports (R4P) has launched its Port Decision Makers Guide to Climate Risk Assessment (CRA), offering a structured pathway for port infrastructure and port operations to prepare for escalating climate threats.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe resilience of global port systems is under threat, and the urgency of the situation cannot be understated,\u201d said Dr Darshana Godaliyadde, Director of Resilience4Ports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dClimate change-related risks have the potential to completely shut down parts of the global logistics network, the financial, social and environmental consequences of which would be dramatic on both a local and international scale. That\u2019s why we believe understanding and managing these risks will be key to catalyse momentum across the industry and build long-term sustainability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anticipating risk<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The initiative, led by the International Coalition for Sustainable Infrastructure (ICSI) and supported by Arup, UN Climate Change High-Level Champions, Lloyd\u2019s Register and Lloyd\u2019s Register Foundation, aims to help ports anticipate risks such as sea-level rise, extreme temperatures and flooding.<\/p>\n<p>Climate-related port disruptions already cost the global economy an estimated $7\u201310 billion annually, with that figure expected to rise to $25\u201330 billion by 2100 without decisive adaptation.<\/p>\n<p>The new guidance outlines how CRAs can help ports identify vulnerabilities, prioritise adaptation investments and access climate finance.
