{"id":6029,"date":"2026-01-13T10:34:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T10:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport\/2026\/01\/13\/battery-powered-tug-for-kandla-port\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T14:20:36","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T13:20:36","slug":"battery-powered-tug-for-kandla-port","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/news\/products-services-greenport\/battery-powered-tug-for-kandla-port\/","title":{"rendered":"Battery-powered tug for Kandla Port"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Echandia has been selected to supply the 4.4 MWh battery system for the electric port tug, which will be deployed at Deendayal Port Authority under the Government of India\u2019s Green Tug Transition Program.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis project is an important step for India\u2019s green maritime transition and for high-performance electric tug operations,\u201d said Torbj\u00f6rn B\u00e4ck, CEO of Echandia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are proud to deliver the battery system for India\u2019s first fully electric tug and to support Kandla Port in building a cleaner and more efficient port ecosystem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Greener tugs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This project aims to enable zero-emission operations at one of the country\u2019s most strategically important port hubs, reducing air pollution while supporting safer, quieter and more efficient harbour services.<\/p>\n<p>The battery system has been designed for a 15-year operational lifetime, aligned with the charter agreement between Ripley Group and Deendayal Port Authority.<\/p>\n<p>Kongsberg Maritime has been appointed as system integrator, while Echandia was selected through a competitive tender process.<\/p>\n<p>A critical requirement was the ability to deliver 30,000 charge cycles over the vessel\u2019s lifetime without mid-life battery replacement.
