{"id":6286,"date":"2026-04-21T12:40:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-21T11:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport\/2026\/04\/21\/carbon-insetting-drives-port-decarbonisation\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T14:22:12","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T13:22:12","slug":"carbon-insetting-drives-port-decarbonisation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/news\/projects-initiatives-greenport\/carbon-insetting-drives-port-decarbonisation\/","title":{"rendered":"Carbon insetting drives port decarbonisation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The initiative, introduced by DP World at its Southampton terminal in April 2026, converts operational emissions reductions into tradable certificates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt DP World, we believe decarbonising global supply chains requires practical solutions that deliver measurable impact today,\u201d said&nbsp;John Trenchard, vice president \u2013 sustainable international supply chains, Europe at DP World.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dThis scheme will turn real emissions reductions at Southampton into verified savings our customers can count towards their Scope 3 targets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Green supply chains<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>DP World first began <a href=\"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/environment-and-sustainability\/dp-world-offers-port-carbon-insetting-incentive\/1498602.article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">carbon insetting at its&nbsp;UK operations of London Gateway and Southampton<\/a> back on 1 January 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme is designed to help customers address Scope 3 port emissions by embedding carbon insetting directly into green supply chains.<\/p>\n<p>Using biofuels, electrification and renewable energy, the port generates measurable savings that are allocated per container movement.<\/p>\n<p>The Container Terminal Inset Certificates are issued under DP World\u2019s wider Carbon Inset Programme, developed with 123Carbon and independently verified.
