to strengthen landside efficiency while reducing port emissions through improved energy performance and hybridisation technologies.

“These new ACCs strengthen our landside capabilities while supporting our long-term sustainability goals,” said Bruno Porchietto, VICT chief executive officer.

“This investment reflects our commitment to expanding terminal capacity, improving efficiency and adopting technologies that lessen the environmental impact of our operations.”

Green strategy

The deployment supports VICT’s long-term strategy to expand annual throughput capacity beyond 1.6 million teu while enhancing eco-efficient operations at the fully automated terminal.

The hybrid automatic container carriers were developed to increase productivity by reducing loading times, with VICT and Kalmar collaborating on customised upgrades aimed at improving operational efficiency.

The new port equipment features twin-box lifting capability of up to 60 tonnes and lithium-ion battery systems capable of recovering energy during operations.

According to Kalmar, the hybridisation systems deliver a 40% increase in energy efficiency and can reduce carbon emissions by up to 50 tonnes per unit annually, supporting broader industry efforts to lower port emissions.

VICT, a subsidiary of ICTSI, remains the only fully automated container terminal in the southern hemisphere.

Back in February, <a
