The investment is intended to accelerate the development of infrastructure that will connect industrial carbon emitters in the Netherlands and Germany with permanent geological storage sites beneath the North Sea, supporting the wider deployment of carbon capture, utilisation and storage.<\/p>\n
\u201cCarbon capture and permanent storage can make a direct contribution to reducing industrial emissions,\u201d said the founders of SeaSeaS, chief executive Kees van Seventer and chief operating officer Peter Boers.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur ambition is to develop an open-access terminal in Amsterdam that connects industry across inland Europe with storage sites in the North Sea. Exolum\u2019s involvement will strengthen the project and help move it closer to becoming operational.\u201d<\/p>\n
Designed to handle up to 3.5 million tonnes of CO2 annually, the terminal will receive liquefied carbon dioxide by vessel, rail, road and pipeline before shipping it to offshore storage facilities.<\/p>\n
Scheduled to begin operations in 2030, the project aims to provide access to carbon storage for companies that lack direct pipeline connections, broadening participation in industrial decarbonisation.<\/p>\n
\u201cCarbon capture can only be deployed at scale if the infrastructure is in place to connect industrial emitters efficiently with different permanent storage sites,\u201d said Nacho Casaj\u00fas, senior vice president of Exolum Global Energy Logistics.<\/p>\n
\u201cSeaSeaS Amsterdam has the potential to become an important part of that value chain in Northern Europe, which is expected to grow significantly in scale.\u201d<\/p>\n
