{"id":724,"date":"2019-07-19T09:47:00","date_gmt":"2019-07-19T08:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport\/2019\/07\/19\/apmt-and-ilwu-agree-on-automation-training\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T13:46:35","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T12:46:35","slug":"apmt-and-ilwu-agree-on-automation-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/news\/north-america\/apmt-and-ilwu-agree-on-automation-training\/","title":{"rendered":"APMT and ILWU agree on automation training"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The agreement will prepare longshore mechanics to maintain and repair the automated cargo-handling equipment that APM Terminals will deploy at its facility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe that it is critical to the continued success of the Port of Los Angeles that the ILWU is trained for the jobs of the future,\u201d said APM Terminals. \u201cAs we prepare to modernize Pier 400, we are glad to be working in partnership with the ILWU and PMA on implementing a training program that complements the changes at Pier 400 and in the broader industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Permit approval pending<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>APM Terminals is moving closer to the realisation of its Pier 400 automation project at the Port of Los Angeles following the Board of Harbor Commissioners decision to reject the ILWU&#8217;s Pier 400 development appeal against a permit for a second time.<\/p>\n<p>The vote follows the Los Angeles City Council&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/news101\/world\/americas\/apm-la-automation-permit-vetoed-by-council\" target=\"_blank\">decision to veto the Commission&#8217;s permit approval decision<\/a>. APM Terminals\u2019 permit request will now be passed back to the Los Angeles City Council.
