{"id":7477,"date":"2009-07-15T12:24:00","date_gmt":"2009-07-15T11:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport\/2009\/07\/15\/ashdod-port-says-no-to-new-container-capacity\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T14:33:26","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T13:33:26","slug":"ashdod-port-says-no-to-new-container-capacity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/news\/middle-east\/ashdod-port-says-no-to-new-container-capacity\/","title":{"rendered":"Ashdod port says no to new container capacity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chief executive Shuki Sagis stressed that building additional facilities would undermine the finances of the existing port company and potentially jeopardise attempts to privatise the entity in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Sagis warned that the $2.5bn cost of the proposed new container terminals at both Haifa and Ashdod were not justified in the current economic climate and a simple upgrade of existing facilities would suffice for the next few years.<\/p>\n<p>Under existing government plans, Haifa would have a second box terminal by 2015 and Ashdod by 2018.
