{"id":8618,"date":"2012-10-04T10:55:00","date_gmt":"2012-10-04T09:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport\/2012\/10\/04\/bids-invited-for-melbourne-port-redevelopment\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T14:44:05","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T13:44:05","slug":"bids-invited-for-melbourne-port-redevelopment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/news\/oceania\/bids-invited-for-melbourne-port-redevelopment\/","title":{"rendered":"Bids invited for Melbourne Port redevelopment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The US$1.6bn redevelopment of the port is vital for the future of the South-East state of Victoria and will create more than 2,600 jobs.<\/p>\n<p>Ted Baillieu said: \u201cMelbourne is Australia\u2019s largest container, automotive and general cargo port with trade results for the 2011 to 2012 showing 7.8% growth in container trade to 2.58 million teu and 4.5% growth in automotive trade to 356,000 vehicles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These figures represent around 36% of the country\u2019s container trade and 40% of the nation\u2019s automotive exports and imports and are expected to increase over the next 10 years, protecting the country\u2019s economic future.<\/p>\n<p>He added: H\u201cAll EoI\u2019s will be assessed using commercial, environmental and community amenity criteria, while the Port of Melbourne will deliver the backbone infrastructure required for this development.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr Denis Napthine, Minister for Ports, said: \u201cIn April this year, we announced the start of this project and less than 6 months later we are inviting private sector bids.
